Toyin Ajisafe, Ph.D., joined NCMRR as a health scientist administrator in 2020. He manages a portfolio focused on movement biomechanics for people with disabilities (PWDs), health disparities for PWDs, and pediatric rehabilitation populations. His research focus includes locomotor competence in children with and without disabilities, physical activity surveillance and wearable device development, game development for locomotor training, health-related physical fitness assessment, and cardiometabolic risk prediction using machine learning techniques.

Prior to joining NCMRR, Dr. Ajisafe was a tenured associate professor of kinesiology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where he studied locomotor barriers in children with obesity and identified salient features to consolidate and optimize chronic disease risk sureillance in schools. He also served on the local school health advisory council, where he provided support for policies to reduce pediatric health disparities in underserved communities.

Dr. Ajisafe earned his doctoral degree in kinesiology from Georgia State University. He received his master’s degree in movement science from Barry University and bachelor’s degrees in physical therapy and exercise science from the University of North Dakota.
